Treatment Process at
our Brain Center Vienna
Your Individual Treatment Path
SOZO Brain Center Vienna supports you across a broad range of neurological, chronic, and mental conditions, including Parkinson's, dementia, autism, ADHD, stroke after-effects, chronic pain, depression, and more. Every therapy begins with a thorough diagnosis and ends with measurable results. Please bring along any existing medical records you may have. An MRI (on DVD or as a download code) is usually required.
Our treatment process is structured into four clearly defined phases:

Step 1
Initial Consultation & Neurological Diagnostics
In a detailed initial conversation, we gather your medical history, current symptoms, and previous findings.
Using neurological and neuropsychological tests, clinically validated questionnaires, and brain mapping, we create a precise picture of your neurological status.
Based on this, we develop your personal neuromodulation treatment plan.

Step 2
Therapy Sessions at Our Practice in Vienna
A therapy plan typically includes 3–5 sessions of about 45–60 minutes each; the actual frequency depends on the indication, pre-existing conditions, and medical assessment. Depending on need, the following technologies are used and taught. For chronic-degenerative conditions, ongoing home therapy is planned, which you will learn during these sessions:
Dabei werden je nach Notwendigkeit folgende Technologien verwendet und erlernt. Für chronisch-degenerative Erkrankungen ist eine dauerhafte Heimtherapie vorgesehen, die Sie in diesen Sitzungen erlernen
- TPS - Transcranial Pulse Stimulation – in-practice only
- tDCS – Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation – home therapy
- CES – Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation – home therapy
- taVNS –Transcutaneous Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation – home therapy
- PEMF – Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy – in-practice only
- ESWT - Radial Shockwave Therapy – in-practice only
- EMTT - Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy – in-practice only
Individual application methods are used according to scientifically published, indication-specific criteria; not every method is suitable for every condition.
Throughout the entire treatment, you are accompanied by experienced professional staff under the medical direction of Dr. Helmut Retzek. It follows standardized protocols by Sir Petros Kattou (SOZO Brain Center Nicosia).

Step 3
Home Therapy – Treatment in Your Own Environment
After the intensive phase, many patients continue therapy comfortably from home — using medically approved, safe devices and a plan tailored to you. This keeps the treatment flexible and easy to integrate into daily life.
- TPS - Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation – home therapy
- CES – Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation – home therapy
- taVNS - Transcutaneous Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation – home therapy
Home therapy is only carried out following medical instruction and with an individual treatment plan.

Step 4
Follow-up Monitoring & Brain Mapping
Follow-up examinations — e.g. every 3 months — including validated scoring assessments allow us to objectively measure your progress. The treatment plan is adjusted if necessary. Your therapeutic success is our benchmark.
Patients from Out of Town, international Patients
For international patients who booked their appointment through SOZO Brain Center Nicosia, or patients traveling a longer distance to Vienna, treatment spans 4 to 6 days with two daily sessions. Ideally Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday, so you have the weekend to rest.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many sessions does the intensive phase at SOZO Brain Center include?
The intensive phase typically consists of 5 sessions of about 30 minutes each at the practice. Depending on the indication, methods such as TPS, tDCS, CES, taVNS, or PEMF are used. The exact scope is determined individually after the neurological diagnostics.
Is neuromodulation treatment painful?
The methods used are considered non-invasive and are described by most patients as well tolerated. Before treatment begins, the initial consultation explains exactly what to expect from the respective method.
Can I continue therapy at home?
Yes. After the intensive phase at the practice, home therapy continues using approved devices. Instruction and the individual application plan are determined by a doctor beforehand.
How often does follow-up monitoring take place?
Treatment progress is checked through regular follow-up examinations, including repeated brain mapping. The exact frequency depends on the individual treatment plan and indication.
What happens during the initial neurological diagnostics?
The initial diagnostics include taking the medical history, neuropsychological tests, clinical questionnaires, and an EEG (brain mapping). The individual treatment plan is created on this basis.
